@crishl Frankly speaking, for most of cases my answer is no. But for some cases, it could be recommended to use VPNs like mudfish, exitlag or WTFast when your ISP has a poor international routing.

I get about 50ms lower ping in FFXIV (AU>JP) with mudfish.
