Philippines - Aliyun server is showing as coming from Turkey

Hi, I just want to let you guys know that when I turn on the VPN using the Philippines - Aliyun server, it’s flagging me as being from Istanbul, Turkey (which I am not) when I check on IP address sites. Changing it to a different Philippine server fixed, so there’s something wrong with that Aliyun server in particular.

Hi ellorien,

May I ask which site you used to check your IP? Many IP lookup sites rely on GeoIP databases, which often struggle to accurately map IPs from cloud providers like Aliyun.

The server is physically located in the Philippines, but third-party GeoIP data might incorrectly point to Turkey. Since this is an issue with external GeoIP databases rather than our server itself, it isn’t something Mudfish can directly resolve.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi, I hear what you’re saying, but does that mean Steam will also think I’ve been logging in from Turkey if I was using that server to log in the past few days?

For your question on what site I used:

I used 2 sites to double check what I was seeing since seeing it say Turkey surprised me.

I used https://whatismyipaddress.com/ first. Upon seeing it say Turkey, I checked What is my IP address? | IPinfo as well, which gave the same result.

I then tried changing to a different Philippine server and the 2 sites then changed to say Philippines.

Tested again just now. Here are the screenshots of both sites using Philippines - Aliyun server.

As you know, 8.212.145.172 is PH Asia (Philippines - Aliyun) mudfish node. Yes it clearly says that it’s Turkiye though it physically locates at Philippines. So it looks like they’re using incorrect GeoIP database.

So yes, Steam also could think that the connection is fron Turkey.
